Jinjira or Jinjira, a historically famous commercial area of Bangladesh. Tawapatti, Tinpatti, Aganagar, Baspatti, Kathpatti, Thanaghat, Ferryghat area houses have spread to more than 1200 small and cottage industries. [1] These industries depend on the livelihood of 30,000 people. During the British rule, the Jinjira Ghat adjacent to the river was a significant ghat in Dhaka at that time. [2] Location Jinjira is a union territory of Dhaka district in Keraniganj upazila. It is located on the banks of river Buriganga. Historical context After the fall of Siraj-ud-Daulah after the historic battle of Palashi, his mother Amena Begum, wife Lutfa Begum, daughter Qudsia Begum alias Umme Johra and aunt Ghaseti Begum were held captive on a steep hill at Jinjira Palace. They were kept in chains or chains, and according to the historians, after the incident of wearing these chains, the name of this region was later changed to Jinjira. During the British rule, Jinjira Hat became famous for its raw jute, jute products, canned goods, spices, gazari lakri (poles), various sizes of wood, bamboo, etc. At the same time, Jinjira became famous for pottery and iron products. Following this, a number of small and medium scale industries developed in Jinjira and its adjoining areas during the rule of Pakistan. Notable among these are tar, coconut oil, soap, detergent, sari-lungi. After independence, factories for chemical-based consumer goods, melamine and many other products sprang up and expanded. [3]
