He had no savings of his own, which he donated to a library in his home called Book Garden. At one point, he underwent eye surgery and was in dire financial straits. At that time no one extended a helping hand to the poet. So in his last years he fell into financial misery and died without treatment. Although no trace of poet Sirajul Islam was found while he was alive, after his death a part of the upazila administration building was used as the library of poet Sirajul Islam. Former State Minister Aman Ullah Aman on July 26, 2002 allotted the building to the Sirajul Islam Public Library. A police outpost was set up there about a decade ago. Since then, people of all ages, including students, have been deprived of reading books. According to Kabir's family sources, a library was set up at Keraniganj Upazila premises in 2002 during the BNP government in memory of poet Sirajul Islam. The library housed a collection of songs and books written by the poet Sirajul and various books on his career. Apart from this, various educational books and national dailies were kept for acquiring knowledge of students and all kinds of people; But at the end of 2007, during the then caretaker government, the Sirajul Islam Public Library was closed and a police outpost was set up. According to the locals, we used to come to the library and read magazines and books regularly; But he is being deprived of the opportunity as there is a police outpost there. They said that at one time many rare books could be found in the library. But they can't read those books anymore. Nirmal Kumar Das, police inspector of Konakhola police outpost, said that besides him, there are 16 policemen including two SIs and an ASI in the Konakhola police outpost. He said they were looking for land for their own building. They will leave the library if they build a permanent building for themselves. On the other hand, the book garden left by the poet Sirajul Islam in his home village Rasulpur (Gakulchar) is now nothing but a memory. Although a committee called Poet Sirajul Islam Smriti Sangsad has been formed to run the organization called 'Book Garden', which was created by the poet himself, it has not been active for the last eight years. Khaleda Akhter Sima, daughter-in-law of poet Sirajul Islam, told Naya Diganta that the people of Smriti Sangsad are taking advantage by using the poet's name. They are embezzling money from traders.
